Johann Rousselot

Johann Rousselot was born in 1971 in Brussels, where he studied photography at ESI – Superior School of Images – from 1992 to 1995. He became a member of Oeil Public Agency in 2001. His photography stands at the crossroads of photojournalism and an author’s artistic approach, in which material and aesthetic chosen reveal as important as the sociological understanding and journalistic point of view. His work appeared a.o. in Courrier International, D – La Repubblica delle Donne, Elle France, El Pais, Epsilon, L’Express, La Vie, Le Monde, Newsweek Japan, Ode Holland, Posytyw, Time Asia and in the books „India Now – New Visions in Photography“ (Les Édition Textuel, Paris, 2007, and Thames & Hudson Ltd, London, 2008) and „This Day of Change – Kodansha’s 100th Anniversary Photo Book Project“ (Kodansha International Ltd., Tokyo, 2009) . In 2003 he received the french Kodak Photography Award for his series „Balkans! Beauty within the Beast“. His work „Indian Night“ was shortlisted for the Fondation HSBC Award for Photography 2007. Exhibitions a.o. at the Festival du Photojournalism Visa pour l’image, Perpignan (2003, 2005 and 2007), Chroniques Nomades Photo Festival, Honfleur (2005), Festival International du Scoop et du Journalism, Angers (2007), Bose Pacia Gallery, Calcutta (2008).
